Voodoo Dolls

The Love&Bones site has some nice looking voodoo dolls. Though well known for their more nefarious uses, voodoo dolls can also be used for more positive ends such as trying to attain peace, health, love, money, etc. While you're there, also check out their cool skull apparel and decks. LINK

Skelewags :: Richard Vermaak

I LOVE these little monster drawings! He does a great job of using the cracks, paint chips or other idiosyncrasies found around him.

This is a must check out! His own site says that it's under construction but you can check out a whole slew of his pieces here. Just scroll down. LINK

Dholl

I think I like these illustrations because, despite their morbid content, there is still something innocent in the style of the faces. You can see more of Dholl's illustrations at Deviant Art. LINK

The Quay Brothers

Apparently, I'm late to learning about the Quay brother's existence since they've been working in stop-motion animation since the seventies. Twins, Stephen and Timothy seem to have spent much of their career creating shorts with little dialogue, many of which use dolls (or doll parts) to create rather macabre films. (I have to admit that though I appreciate the style of their work, I'm not sure I get the meaning.)

I particularly like these interstitials created for BBC (though not used). LINK

And here are parts one and two to a film called the Street of Crocodiles. Both parts are about 10 minutes long.

The Daily Monster :: Stefan G. Bucher

Though The Daily Monster hasn't been daily in a while, the original concept was that he'd post a new monster every day. I think lately he promises a new one each week but these monsters are still pretty cool.

Insanely Twisted :: Michel Gangé

The creator of these little monsters is a guy named Michael Gangé though he worked with others to animate them. In addition to the monsters and games, he's also done a couple comics/graphic novels.

Gnaritas Monstrum :: Seth Kendall

This animation won a whole bunch of awards back in 2007. It's a graduate film by Seth Kendall done while he was at Drexel University. LINK

Machu Picchu Post

If you're looking for something to make you smile, this animated short film is pretty uplifting (pun intended). Very well done and won all sorts of awards. LINK

Flying Octopus

I've seen plenty of balloon art in the past but the scale of this made it worth sharing. These people built a giant octopus out of balloons then flew it! And it only took them a week for the construction.

Inspired Bicycles :: Danny MacAskill

Danny MacAskill is the one catching the air doing all of these bike stunts, but whomever put together this video needs to be given some credit as well for creating an inspiring piece. The strength and control in these tricks is pretty amazing. LINK

Inflating Art :: Joshua Allen Harris

You may have seen the air bear before, but some of Joshua Allen Harris' later creations are even more fantastic. Creating creatures that are animated by the machinations of the city. What a concept.

Marcin Jakubowski

Dieselpunk PC Mod

Currency Collages :: Mark Wagner

Took me a while to find his site since lots of blogs have already shown his work. But I tracked it down. He makes awesome collages out of currency.

Totally worth the time to peruse the selections since the style and content does change dramatically from one piece to another. I wonder if the Feds ever give him a hard time about that pesky little law against destroying U.S. currency. LINK
